The Lexicon Charity Fund, launched in 2018, supports charities, schools and community groups, based in or benefiting residents within Bracknell Forest.

The fund is managed and controlled by Berkshire Community Foundation (registered Charity number 1155173).

Berkshire Community Foundation manages funding on behalf of individuals, companies, charitable trusts and statutory agencies, one of which is The Lexicon Charity Fund.


Who can apply?

We welcome applications from small organisations where a small amount of money can make a significant difference. Applicants must be based and working within Bracknell Forest or directly benefit residents living in Bracknell Forest.

What can you apply for?

Other than needing to be a Bracknell Forest based community group, PTA or charitable group, and/or benefitting residents of Bracknell Forest, the scope covered by The Lexicon Charity Fund is extremely wide.

For example, previous grants have included:

  • Pilgrim Hearts Trust to help cover the provision of a freephone line to its client helpline for one year.
  • Meadow Vale Primary PTA for a pond regeneration project.
  • Age Concern Bracknell Forest to purchase ‘Activitouch’ interactive tables for its Day Centre.
  • Chance to Dance Stars to hold monthly activity workshops for children and young adults with a physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional and/or developmental disability.
  • Jealott's Hill Community Landshare to upgrade the floor of the poly-tunnel, making it safe and more accessible for wheel chair users and other members of the community.

How much do we give?

The amounts awarded from The Lexicon Charity Fund are between £250 and £5,000.

What we don’t fund

  • Individuals
  • General appeals
  • The direct replacement of statutory funding
  • Political groups or activities promoting political beliefs
  • Religious groups promoting religious beliefs
  • Arts projects with no community or charitable element
  • Sports projects with no community or charitable element
  • Medical research, equipment or treatment
  • Projects that take place before an application can be processed

When can you apply?

The submission deadline for each round of funding will be publicised on the Berkshire Community Foundation website www.berkshirecf.org as well as being advertised on The Lexicon’s social media platforms.

What will happen next?

Once BCF has received your completed application. it will be assessed by a member of staff who may contact you for further information. 

The application will then go to a panel for a decision. You will be notified of the panel’s decision within eight weeks of the application deadline.

Monitoring and evaluation

Six months, after the grant has been paid, Bracknell Community Foundation will send you a grant monitoring report form. 

This form asks for details of how the grant was spent and what was achieved. In addition, a member of staff or trustee may contact you to arrange a visit to find out more.

16 grants have been awarded, worth £59,420

The Lexicon Charity Fund – Round OneA total of 14 applications were received for the first round of funding. Four awards were made of funds between £1,500 and £2,000.
The Lexicon Charity Fund – Round twoA total of 32 applications were received for the second round of funding. These applications were shortlisted down to 17. Five awards were made to the value of £5,000 each.
The Lexicon Charity Fund - Round threeA total of 43 applications were received for the third round of funding.  These applications were shortlisted down to 20.  Seven awards were made to the total value of £26,920
